Ingredients
Scale
- 2–3 ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 cup)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mash the bananas until smooth. Stir in melted butter, brown sugar, white sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.
- In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips, reserving a handful for topping.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Sprinkle the reserved chocolate chips on top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
Notes
- Use Ripe Bananas: Overripe bananas with lots of brown spots are best for this recipe. They add natural sweetness and make the bars extra moist.
- Don’t Overmix the Batter: Stir just until the ingredients are combined. Overmixing can make the bars dense and tough instead of soft and chewy.
- Cool Completely Before Cutting: Allow the bars to cool in the pan to set properly. Cutting them too soon can cause them to crumble. Patience is key!
