Description

Comfort food meets gourmet flair in this delicious take on Salisbury steak. Juicy beef patties and a rich mushroom gravy create the ultimate crowd-pleasing dish, perfect for weeknights or special dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (85% lean)
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 medium onion, finely sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour (optional, for thickening)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Patties:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Shape into 4-6 patties.
  • Cook the Patties:
Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  • Sauté the Vegetables:
Add the remaining olive oil to the skillet. Sauté mushrooms and onions until soft and golden, about 5 minutes.
  • Make the Gravy:
Deglaze the pan with beef broth, scraping up browned bits for flavor. Stir in Worcestershire sauce. If using flour, mix it with a small amount of water to form a slurry, then whisk it into the gravy. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
  • Combine and Simmer:
Return the patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them. Cover and simmer on low for 10 minutes to blend flavors and fully cook the patties.
  • Serve:
Plate the Salisbury steaks with gravy drizzled generously on top. Pair with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables for a complete meal.

Notes

  1. 1. Don’t Overmix the Beef Mixture: Overmixing the ground beef can lead to tough patties. Mix just until combined to keep them tender and juicy.

    2. Sear for Maximum Flavor: Make sure the skillet is hot before adding the patties to create a golden-brown crust. This enhances both flavor and texture.

    3. Let the Gravy Thicken: Allow the gravy to simmer and reduce slightly. This step ensures a rich, flavorful sauce that perfectly coats the patties.
