  • Yield: 6-8 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (10-inch) angel food cake, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 115g (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, melted
  • 100g (1/2 cup) granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  • Prepare the cinnamon sugar: In a bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
  • Heat the oil: Pour about 5 cm (2 inches) of vegetable oil into a deep pan and heat to 175°C (350°F).
  • Fry the cake bites: In small batches, fry the angel food cake cubes for 30-45 seconds per side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  • Coat with cinnamon sugar: While still warm, brush each cube with melted butter, then roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Serve immediately with chocolate or caramel sauce for dipping!

Notes

1️⃣ Don’t Overcrowd the Pan: Fry the cake bites in small batches to ensure even crispiness and prevent them from absorbing too much oil.

2️⃣ Work Quickly with the Cinnamon Sugar: Coat the bites while they’re still warm so the sugar sticks properly and creates that perfect churro-like texture.

3️⃣ Watch the Oil Temperature: Keep the oil at 175°C (350°F). If it’s too hot, the bites will burn; too cool, and they’ll turn greasy instead of crispy.
