Description
Easy Apple OREO Balls made with crushed chocolate sandwich cookies, cream cheese, red candy coating, pretzel stems, and green candy leaves. These no-bake treats are perfect for back-to-school parties, fall gatherings, and teacher gifts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 standard package OREO cookies, about 36 cookies
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 12 ounces red candy melts
- 16 pretzel sticks, broken into short stems
- 16 spearmint leaf candies
Instructions
- Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place the OREO cookies in a food processor and pulse until fine crumbs form.
- Add the softened cream cheese and process until the mixture becomes smooth and evenly combined.
- Separate and trim the spearmint leaf candies as needed, then break the pretzel sticks into short apple stems.
- Divide the cookie mixture into 16 portions and roll each portion into a 1-inch ball.
- Gently shape each ball like an apple, make a shallow indentation at the top, and insert one pretzel stem.
- Arrange the shaped cookie balls on the prepared baking sheet and freeze for 10 to 20 minutes, until firm but not frozen solid.
- Place the red candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 30 seconds.
- Stir well, then continue heating in 15- to 30-second intervals until completely melted and smooth.
- Hold one chilled cookie ball by the pretzel stem and dip it into the melted red coating.
- Spoon coating over any uncovered areas while keeping the pretzel stem visible.
- Lift the coated apple and gently tap off the excess candy coating.
- Place the apple on parchment paper and immediately attach one spearmint candy leaf beside the stem.
- Repeat with the remaining cookie balls, reheating the coating briefly when necessary.
- Refrigerate the finished Apple OREO Balls until the coating sets and keep chilled until serving.
Notes
- Soften the cream cheese before mixing so the filling blends smoothly.
- Do not overheat the candy melts; use short microwave intervals and stir often.
- Work with only a few chilled cookie balls at a time so the remaining pieces stay firm.
- If the coating becomes too thick, stir in a very small amount of food-grade coconut oil or candy-melt thinning aid.
- Store the finished treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
