Description

Rich and moist applesauce brownies made without butter. Sweetened with honey and packed with chocolate flavor.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk applesauce and honey until combined.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla and whisk until smooth.
  4. Add cocoa powder, flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Fold gently until no dry streaks remain.
  6. Mix in chocolate chips if using.
  7. Spread batter evenly in prepared pan.
  8. Top with additional chocolate if desired.
  9. Bake for 22 to 26 minutes.
  10. Cool completely before slicing into 9 squares.

Notes

  1. Use room-temperature eggs for best texture.
  2. Sweetened applesauce will create sweeter brownies.
  3. Do not overbake for fudgy results.
  4. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
