Juicy BBQ chicken grilled until perfectly charred and coated with rich barbecue sauce, ideal for summer grilling.
Ingredients

- 3 ½ to 4 pounds chicken thighs or drumsticks (bone-in, skin-on)
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 cup BBQ sauce
Instructions
- Place chicken on a baking sheet and bring to room temperature, then pat dry.
- Mix salt, garlic powder, smoked paprika, chili powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
- Rub the seasoning evenly over the chicken on all sides.
- Prepare grill with indirect and direct heat zones.
- Place chicken on indirect heat side and cook 30 to 35 minutes, flipping every 10 minutes until internal temperature reaches 160°F to 165°F.
- Brush chicken with BBQ sauce and cook for 3 to 4 minutes.
- Flip chicken, brush more sauce, and cook another 3 to 4 minutes.
- Repeat brushing and cooking until internal temperature reaches 175°F and sauce caramelizes.
- Remove from grill and serve.
Notes
- Apply BBQ sauce only near the end to prevent burning.
- Use bone-in chicken for juicier results.
- Flip chicken regularly for even cooking.
- Prepare BBQ sauce ahead of time for easier grilling.
