Description
Flaky, buttery croissants meet juicy, sweet berries in this delightful bake, bound together by a creamy custard. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, it’s both versatile and irresistibly delicious!
Ingredients
- 6 large croissants, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 ½ cups milk or cream
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Prep the Base: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cut croissants into 1-2 inch pieces and layer them evenly in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Add the Berries: Spread mixed berries over the croissants, ensuring an even distribution.
- Make the Custard: In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk (or cream), sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth.
- Combine: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissants and berries, pressing down lightly to soak the pieces.
- Bake: Place in the oven and bake for 35-45 minutes or until the top is golden and the custard is set.
- Serve: Let it cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm.
Notes
1️⃣ Use Day-Old Croissants: Slightly stale croissants absorb the custard better, resulting in a creamier texture without becoming overly soggy.
2️⃣ Fresh vs. Frozen Berries: Fresh berries work best, but if using frozen, make sure to thaw and drain them to prevent excess moisture in the bake.
3️⃣ Let It Rest Before Serving: Allow the bake to cool for at least 10 minutes after removing it from the oven. This helps the custard set and makes serving easier.
