Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough (if homemade):

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp (25g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup (120ml) warm milk
  • 3 tbsp (45g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

For the Filling:

  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp lemon zest (optional)
  • 1 cup (150g) fresh or frozen blueberries (if frozen, thaw and drain)

For the Topping:

  • ½ cup (60g) powdered sugar (for dusting or glaze)
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) milk (for glaze, optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough (if homemade): Mix flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Knead until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour. If using store-bought crescent dough, skip this step.
Make the Cheesecake Filling: In a bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, and lemon zest until smooth.
Roll Out the Dough: If using homemade dough, roll it into a ¼-inch thick rectangle. If using crescent dough, unroll it on a floured surface.
Add the Filling and Blueberries: Spread the cheesecake mixture evenly over the dough. Sprinkle blueberries on top.
Roll and Slice: Roll the dough into a log and slice into 1-inch pieces. Place rolls on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 18-22 minutes until golden brown.
Top and Serve: Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with a simple glaze made of powdered sugar and milk.

Notes

  • Use Fresh or Properly Drained Frozen Blueberries – If using frozen blueberries, make sure to thaw and drain them well to prevent excess moisture from making the rolls soggy.

  • Avoid Overfilling with Cheesecake Mixture – Too much filling can cause the rolls to become messy and difficult to roll properly, leading to leakage during baking.

  • Bake Until Golden Brown for the Best Texture – Ensure the rolls are fully baked by checking for a golden-brown color on top. Underbaking can result in a doughy texture, while overbaking may dry them out.
