Description

Rich, nutty brown butter meets the sweet, melty goodness of chocolate chips, perfectly balanced with a sprinkle of sea salt. These cookies are chewy, slightly crispy, and utterly irresistible. Bake these, and you’ll never look back at regular chocolate chip cookies again!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (browned)
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
  • Flaky sea salt for topping

Instructions

  • Brown the Butter: Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly. Once it foams and turns golden with a nutty aroma, remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes.
  • Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the cooled brown butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Beat until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  • Incorporate Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix into the wet ingredients until a dough forms.
  • Fold in Chocolate Chips: Stir in chocolate chips evenly.
  • Chill the Dough: Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat Oven: Heat to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Shape and Bake: Scoop 1 1/2 tablespoons of dough per cookie, roll into balls, and space evenly on the sheets. Sprinkle lightly with sea salt. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until edges are golden but centers remain soft.
  • Cool and Enjoy: Let cookies rest on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack. Serve warm or store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Brown the Butter Correctly: Keep an eye on the butter while browning. Stir constantly to avoid burning it. Once it turns golden brown with a nutty aroma, remove it from the heat. This step gives the cookies their unique, rich flavor.
  • Chill the Dough: Refrigerate the cookie dough for at least 30 minutes. Chilling ensures the cookies hold their shape while baking, resulting in a chewy texture and preventing them from spreading too much.
  • Sprinkle Sea Salt Wisely: Use flaky sea salt sparingly, sprinkling just a pinch on each dough ball before baking. This adds a touch of savory contrast, enhancing the sweetness of the chocolate chips.
