Description
Cheeseburger Tater Tot Casserole combines seasoned ground beef, smoky bacon, creamy cheddar sauce, melted cheese, and crispy potatoes in one hearty family dinner.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 can condensed cheddar cheese soup, 10.5 ounces
- 8 ounces sour cream
- 3/4 cup cooked and chopped bacon
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 32 ounces frozen tater tots, kept frozen
- Nonstick cooking spray, for the baking dish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and coat a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- Place a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef.
- Cook the beef while breaking it into small pieces until no pink remains.
- Drain the excess grease from the skillet.
- Add the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper, then stir until the beef is evenly seasoned.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and add the condensed cheddar cheese soup, sour cream, chopped bacon, and milk.
- Stir until the sauce is smooth and the beef is evenly coated.
- Transfer the beef mixture to the prepared baking dish.
- Add the frozen tater tots and shredded cheddar cheese.
- Fold the ingredients together gently with a spatula until evenly combined.
- Spread the mixture into an even layer.
- Bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes, until the edges bubble and the top turns golden in spots.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Keep the tater tots frozen until mixing so they hold their shape and develop crisp edges.
- Drain the ground beef thoroughly to prevent a greasy or loose casserole.
- For extra cheeseburger flavor, add 1 tablespoon yellow mustard or 2 tablespoons ketchup to the beef mixture.
- Optional additions include cooked green beans, mushrooms, diced bell peppers, diced onions, or jalapeños.
- Sauté raw vegetables before adding them so they do not release excess moisture into the casserole.
- For a crisper top, reserve some shredded cheddar and add it during the final 10 minutes of baking.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Freeze cooled portions in freezer-safe containers for up to 2 months.
