Cheesy Kielbasa and Potatoes

  • Author: Olivia Hartwellen

Description

Looking for a comforting dish that’s quick, easy, and packed with flavor? Cheesy kielbasa and potatoes combine smoky sausage, tender potatoes, and gooey cheese for a meal that’s as hearty as it is satisfying. Perfect for weeknights or cozy weekends!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) kielbasa sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 4 medium russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups (200 g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced kielbasa and cook until browned on both sides, about 5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, sauté the onions and garlic until soft and fragrant, about 3 minutes.
  • In a greased baking dish, layer the cubed potatoes, sautéed onions and garlic, and browned kielbasa.
  • Season the dish with paprika, salt, and pepper. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving, if desired.

Notes

1️⃣ Balance Flavors: Ensure you season each layer (potatoes, sausage, and cheese) with salt, pepper, and paprika for even flavor throughout the dish. Over-seasoning can overpower the cheese’s creaminess, so taste as you go.

2️⃣ Cook Potatoes Evenly: To avoid undercooked potatoes, cut them into uniform pieces. If you’re short on time, parboil the potatoes for 5-7 minutes before layering them in the dish to speed up cooking.

3️⃣ Customize Your Cheese: While cheddar is classic, mixing it with mozzarella for stretchiness or Gruyère for nuttiness can elevate the dish. Always choose cheese that melts well to achieve the gooey texture that ties everything together!
