Description

A fun twist on the classic Italian sub, the Chopped Italian Sandwich combines all the bold flavors you love in a deliciously convenient form. Perfect for lunch or dinner, it’s an easy crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 oz deli salami, chopped
  • 4 oz ham, chopped
  • 4 oz pepperoni, chopped
  • 4 oz provolone cheese, chopped
  • 1 cup lettuce, finely chopped
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • ¼ cup red onion, diced
  • ¼ cup banana peppers, chopped
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 hoagie rolls, sliced open

Instructions

  • Prep the Ingredients: Using a sharp knife, finely chop the salami, ham, pepperoni, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and banana peppers. Combine them in a large mixing bowl.
  • Add Dressing: Drizzle mayonnaise and red wine vinegar over the chopped ingredients. Sprinkle Italian seasoning on top. Mix everything thoroughly until evenly coated. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  • Assemble the Sandwich: Take your hoagie rolls and slice them open, ensuring the bread can hold the filling without breaking. Stuff each roll generously with the chopped mixture.
  • Serve: Press the sandwich gently to secure the filling. Serve immediately for the best flavor, or wrap tightly in parchment for on-the-go enjoyment.

Notes

  • Customize Freely: Feel free to switch up the meats, cheeses, or veggies based on your preferences. Add extras like olives, roasted peppers, or artichokes for a unique twist.
  • Prevent Soggy Bread: If making in advance, store the chopped filling separately and stuff the bread just before serving. This keeps the bread fresh and maintains the perfect texture.
  • Balance the Dressing: Adjust the amount of mayonnaise and vinegar to your taste. Too much dressing can make the sandwich overly wet, so add a little at a time and mix thoroughly.
