Ingredients
For the Shrimp:
-
1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
-
2 tbsp olive oil
-
1 tsp paprika
-
1 tsp garlic powder
-
Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Creamy Garlic Sauce:
-
2 tbsp butter
-
4 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 cup heavy cream
-
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
-
1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
-
Salt and pepper, to taste
-
Fresh thyme leaves, for garnish
For the Mashed Potatoes:
-
2 lbs potatoes, peeled and cubed
-
½ cup warm milk
-
¼ cup butter
-
Salt, to taste
Instructions
-
Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes and cook for about 15 minutes, until fork-tender. Drain well, then mash with butter and warm milk until smooth and creamy. Season with salt, cover, and keep warm. -
Cook the Shrimp:
Toss shrimp with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and sear shrimp for 2–3 minutes per side until pink and opaque. Remove from the skillet and set aside. -
Make the Creamy Garlic Sauce:
In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté garlic for 1 minute until fragrant. Pour in heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Stir in Parmesan cheese and Dijon mustard, whisking until smooth and thickened (about 3–5 minutes). Season with salt and pepper. -
Assemble the Dish:
Spoon mashed potatoes onto each plate, top with shrimp, and drizzle generously with the garlic cream sauce. Garnish with fresh thyme leaves and serve immediately.
Notes
Don’t overcook shrimp — they turn rubbery quickly once fully opaque.
Use fresh garlic for best flavor; it elevates the cream sauce beautifully.
Add extra Parmesan for richness or a touch of lemon juice for brightness.
Make it lighter with half-and-half or coconut milk instead of heavy cream.
The dish also works well served over pasta or rice.
