Description

A retro classic with a modern twist, this creamy shrimp dip blends chili sauce, cream cheese, horseradish, and juicy shrimp into an irresistible party appetizer. Perfect for New Year’s Eve or any festive occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup chili sauce (120 ml)

  • 8 oz cream cheese, slightly softened (226 g)

  • ½ cup mayonnaise (120 ml)

  • ¼ cup grated onion (60 ml)

  • 1 tsp creamed horseradish (5 ml)

  • Dash or two Worcestershire sauce

  • Dash or two (or three) Tabasco sauce

  • ½ lb cooked salad shrimp or shrimp meat, divided (225 g)

  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh chives

Optional for Serving:

  • Ritz crackers

  • Celery sticks

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, beat chili sauce into the cream cheese until smooth.

  • Add mayonnaise, grated onion, horseradish, Worcestershire, and Tabasco. Mix well.

  • Fold in most of the shrimp and all the chives, reserving some shrimp for garnish.

  • Chill for 1 to 2 hours to let flavors blend.

  • Before serving, top with reserved shrimp as a garnish.

Notes

Use softened cream cheese for a smoother mix.

Adjust Tabasco to suit your spice level.

Frozen cooked shrimp works fine—just thaw and dry.

Avoid freezing leftovers as the texture changes.
