Ingredients
- 4 cups mini marshmallows
- 3 cups crispy rice cereal
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- ½ cup chocolate chips or sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
Melt the Butter and Marshmallows:

- Add marshmallows and stir continuously until fully melted.
- Remove from heat and mix in vanilla extract if using.
Combine with Cereal:
- Add crispy rice cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture.
- Stir quickly but gently to coat all the cereal evenly.
Add Optional Mix-Ins:
- Fold in chocolate chips, sprinkles, or other add-ins.
- Stir gently to distribute without melting mix-ins too much.
Shape and Set:
- Transfer the mixture to a greased 8×8-inch baking dish.
- Use a buttered spatula or wax paper to press it down lightly.
- Let cool at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Cut and Serve:
- Once set, cut into bite-sized squares.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Notes
Melt Marshmallows on Low Heat – High heat can cause the marshmallows to overcook, making the mixture hard and difficult to mix. Stir constantly over low heat for a smooth, gooey texture.
Do Not Overpack the Mixture – Pressing the mixture too firmly into the pan can make the treats too dense and hard. Lightly press with a buttered spatula or wax paper to keep them soft and chewy.
Store Properly to Maintain Freshness – Keep the treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze them individually in wax paper and a sealed bag for up to 6 weeks.
