Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups frozen thick-cut fries (or homemade)
- 1 lb ribeye or sirloin steak, thinly sliced
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
- 1 ½ cups provolone cheese, shredded
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp butter
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook the Fries:
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread the frozen fries on a baking sheet in a single layer. Sprinkle with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Bake for 20-25 minutes until crispy, flipping halfway through. - Cook the Steak:
Season the thinly sliced steak with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak and cook for 3-4 minutes until browned but tender. Remove from the pan and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing further, if needed. - Prepare the Toppings:
In the same skillet, melt 1 tbsp of butter and add the onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until soft and caramelized. - Assemble the Fries:
Once fries are baked, transfer them to an oven-safe dish. Layer the cooked steak evenly over the fries, followed by the sautéed vegetables. Sprinkle the shredded provolone cheese generously over the top. - Melt the Cheese:
Place the dish back in the oven for 5-7 minutes or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly. - Serve:
Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped parsley or fresh chives if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy every cheesy, savory bite!
Notes
- Use Thinly Sliced Steak for Tender Results: Always slice the steak thinly against the grain for maximum tenderness. This ensures each bite is flavorful and easy to chew.
- Layer Cheese Evenly for the Perfect Melt: To get that gooey, irresistible cheese layer, make sure to spread the shredded cheese evenly over the fries and toppings before melting it in the oven.
- Don’t Overcrowd the Fries: When baking or frying the fries, spread them out in a single layer to ensure they crisp up perfectly. Overcrowding traps steam and makes them soggy.
