Description

Delicious, healthy, and fun to make, donut apples are the perfect snack or dessert for any occasion. With endless topping options, they’re as customizable as they are tasty!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 crisp apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith)
  • 4 tbsp peanut butter, almond butter, or sunflower seed butter
  • 2 tbsp granola
  • 1 tbsp honey (optional)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Optional toppings: coconut flakes, dried fruit, mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Wash and dry the apples. Slice them horizontally into ½-inch thick rings. Use a small cookie cutter or knife to remove the cores, creating “donut” shapes.
  • Spread a thin layer of your favorite nut or seed butter over each apple ring.
  • Sprinkle granola evenly over the rings. Add a drizzle of honey for sweetness, if desired.
  • Dust with cinnamon, then add optional toppings like dried fruit or mini chocolate chips for extra flavor.
  • Serve immediately for the freshest taste, or store in an airtight container for up to 2 hours.

Notes

  • Choose Fresh Apples: Always select firm, crisp apples like Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith for the best texture and flavor. Avoid overly ripe apples, as they may become too soft to hold the toppings.
  • Prevent Browning: If you’re preparing donut apples ahead of time, brush the apple slices with lemon juice to prevent oxidation and keep them looking fresh.
  • Customize for Dietary Needs: Substitute nut butter with sunflower seed butter for a nut-free option or use yogurt for a lighter alternative. This ensures everyone can enjoy this snack!
