Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 medium russet potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2️⃣ Cook the Beef: In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat and season with salt and pepper.
3️⃣ Prepare the Potatoes: Peel and thinly slice the potatoes.
4️⃣ Layer the Casserole: In a baking dish, layer half of the potato slices, followed by half of the cooked beef. Spread half of the cream of mushroom soup over the beef. Repeat the layers.
5️⃣ Add Cheese: Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
6️⃣ Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
7️⃣ Rest & Serve: Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
1️⃣ Slice Potatoes Evenly: Ensure the potatoes are sliced thin and evenly to guarantee they cook thoroughly and at the same rate. Thick slices may remain undercooked.
2️⃣ Drain Excess Grease: After browning the ground beef, drain any excess fat to prevent the casserole from becoming greasy and overly heavy.
3️⃣ Cover While Baking: Cover the casserole with foil for the first 45 minutes to keep the potatoes tender. Remove the foil in the final 10-15 minutes to achieve a golden, bubbly cheese topping.
