Description

This easy Fall Fruit Salad combines crisp sweet apples, juicy red grapes, fresh blackberries, and crunchy pecans with a maple-sweetened cinnamon orange dressing. It makes a colorful seasonal side dish for Thanksgiving, brunch, holidays, or everyday meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large orange, zested and juiced
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 16 ounces red seedless grapes
  • 12 ounces fresh blackberries
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 large sweet apples, such as Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala

Instructions

  1. Rinse the grapes and blackberries under cool water, drain well, and gently pat them dry.
  2. Zest the orange into a large mixing bowl, then cut the orange and squeeze its juice into the bowl.
  3. Add the maple syrup and ground cinnamon. Whisk until the dressing looks evenly combined.
  4. Add the grapes, blackberries, and chopped pecans to the dressing.
  5. Core the apples, cut them into bite-size cubes, and immediately add them to the bowl.
  6. Gently toss the fruit and pecans from the bottom upward until the dressing coats every ingredient.
  7. Serve immediately, or cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  8. Toss the salad gently once more before serving.

Notes

  1. Make ahead: Prepare the salad up to one day ahead, cover it tightly, and refrigerate until serving.
  2. Best apples: Honeycrisp, Fuji, and Gala apples provide a sweet flavor and crisp texture.
  3. Storage: Keep leftovers in a sealed refrigerator container for 3 to 4 days.
  4. Orange juice substitution: One large orange provides about 1/4 cup juice.
  5. Pecan option: Toast the pecans in a dry skillet for 3 to 5 minutes, then cool them before adding.
  6. Nut-free option: Replace the pecans with toasted pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds.
  7. Do not freeze the finished salad because the fruit will lose its crisp texture after thawing.
