Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice (uncooked)
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 cup French-fried onions
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until browned and drain excess grease.
  3. Season beef with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  4. In a large bowl, mix uncooked rice, cooked beef, French onion soup mix, beef broth, and sour cream.
  5. Spread mixture evenly into prepared baking dish and dot with butter.
  6. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 45 to 50 minutes until rice is tender.
  7. Remove foil, sprinkle cheese evenly over top, and add French-fried onions.
  8. Bake uncovered for 10 to 15 minutes until cheese melts and turns lightly golden.
  9. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  2. Add sautéed onions for deeper flavor.
  3. Store leftovers in refrigerator up to 4 days.
  4. Freeze up to 2 months for longer storage.
