Ingredients

  • Ground beef patties
  • Hamburger buns
  • Onions
  • Beef broth
  • Swiss cheese slices
  • Butter
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper
  • Olive oil

Instructions

Caramelized Onions:

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add olive oil and butter.
  2. Add thinly sliced onions to the skillet and cook until golden brown and caramelized, stirring occasionally. Once caramelized, set aside.
  • caramelized onions with beef broth:

Heat a skillet over medium heat and add olive oil and butter.
Add thinly sliced onions to the skillet and cook until they start to soften.
Pour in a small amount of beef broth, about 1/4 to 1/2 cup, depending on the quantity of onions you’re using. The beef broth will not only add a rich flavor reminiscent of French onion soup but also help deglaze the pan, picking up any browned bits from the skillet.
Continue to cook the onions, stirring occasionally, until they absorb the beef broth and become golden brown and caramelized. If the onions begin to dry out before they’re fully caramelized, you can add a little more beef broth as needed.
Once caramelized, set aside.

Burger Patties:

  1. Season ground beef patties with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties to your desired level of doneness.
  3. During the last few minutes of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty and allow it to melt.

Assembly:

  1. Toast the hamburger buns lightly on the grill or skillet.
  2. Place a cooked beef patty with melted cheese on the bottom half of each bun.
  3. Top the patties with a generous portion of caramelized onions.
  4. Drizzle Worcestershire sauce over the onions for an extra burst of flavor.
  5. Place the top half of the bun over the onions to complete the burger assembly.

Notes

Let patties rest for 2–3 minutes before assembling.

Use ciabatta or sourdough for a rustic touch.

Add a small bowl of hot broth for dipping if desired.

For a vegetarian version, use plant-based patties and vegetable broth.
