Description
Gramma’s Peach Cobbler combines juicy peaches with a buttery, golden biscuit-style topping. Fresh, frozen, or canned peaches all work in this easy American dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 pounds peaches, peeled and sliced if fresh
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup finishing sugar or granulated sugar
- Cooking spray for the baking dish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and coat an 11-by-7-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- Prepare the peaches. Peel, pit, and slice fresh peaches, or thaw and drain frozen peaches. Drain canned peaches thoroughly.
- Add the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and kosher salt to a mixing bowl. Whisk until evenly combined.
- Pour in the milk and whisk until no dry pockets remain.
- Add the melted butter and vanilla extract. Whisk until the batter becomes smooth.
- Scatter the peach slices evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Pour the batter evenly over the peaches without stirring the layers.
- Sprinkle the ground cinnamon and finishing sugar across the top.
- Bake for 45 minutes, or until the top turns golden brown and the fruit bubbles around the edges.
- Rest the cobbler for 10 to 15 minutes, then serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- Fresh, frozen, or canned peaches may be used. Thaw frozen peaches and drain canned peaches before baking.
- To peel fresh peaches, cut a small cross on the bottom of each peach. Place them in boiling water for about 30 seconds, then transfer them to ice water before removing the skins.
- Finishing sugar creates a crunchy topping. Regular granulated sugar works as a substitute.
- Store covered leftovers in the refrigerator for up to four days.
- Reheat portions in the microwave, or warm the cobbler in a 325°F oven for a crisper topping.
