Description

A comforting hamburger steak bake made with juicy seasoned beef patties, rich onion gravy, and oven-baked perfection for an easy family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large bowl, gently mix ground beef, onion, breadcrumbs, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Form the mixture into thick oval patties.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and lightly brown patties on both sides.
  5. Transfer patties to a greased baking dish.
  6. In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté mushrooms if using.
  7. Whisk in beef broth and gravy mix until smooth.
  8. Pour gravy over the patties.
  9. Cover tightly with foil and bake until patties are tender and cooked through.
  10. Let rest briefly before serving.

Notes

  1. Do not overmix the beef to keep patties tender.
  2. Browning the patties adds extra flavor but can be skipped if short on time.
  3. Let the dish rest before serving so juices redistribute.
  4. Pairs well with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
