Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds ground beef (80/20)
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
- 1 cup plain breadcrumbs
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 packet brown gravy mix
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- In a large bowl, gently mix ground beef, onion, breadcrumbs, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Form the mixture into thick oval patties.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and lightly brown patties on both sides.
- Transfer patties to a greased baking dish.
- In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté mushrooms if using.
- Whisk in beef broth and gravy mix until smooth.
- Pour gravy over the patties.
- Cover tightly with foil and bake until patties are tender and cooked through.
- Let rest briefly before serving.
Notes
- Do not overmix the beef to keep patties tender.
- Browning the patties adds extra flavor but can be skipped if short on time.
- Let the dish rest before serving so juices redistribute.
- Pairs well with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
