Description

Fluffy, buttery, and slightly sweet—Hawaiian Roll French Toast is the ultimate breakfast treat! The soft rolls soak up the custard perfectly, creating a crispy outside and a melt-in-your-mouth center. Perfect for brunch or a quick morning indulgence!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 Hawaiian sweet rolls (left whole or cut in half)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk (or heavy cream for extra richness)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp butter (for cooking)
  • Optional toppings: maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh berries, or whipped cream

Instructions

  • Prepare the Custard – In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
  • Preheat the Pan – Heat a large non-stick or cast-iron skillet over medium heat and add butter.
  • Dip the Rolls – Quickly dip each Hawaiian roll into the custard, coating all sides. Don’t let them soak too long to prevent sogginess.
  • Cook Until Golden – Place the dipped rolls in the pan and cook for about 2 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve and Enjoy – Plate the French toast and top with your favorite toppings like maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use Slightly Stale Rolls – Fresh Hawaiian rolls can be too soft and absorb too much custard, making them soggy. Let them sit out for 10–15 minutes before dipping for better texture.
  • Don’t Over-Soak the Rolls – Quickly dip the rolls in the custard instead of letting them sit. Hawaiian rolls absorb liquid fast, and too much can make them fall apart.
  • Cook on Medium Heat – Cooking too fast on high heat will burn the outside before the inside is fully cooked. Medium heat ensures a golden, crispy exterior while keeping the center soft.
