- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/4 to 1/3 cup natural peanut butter, almond butter, or sunflower seed butter
- 1 small handful dairy-free mini chocolate chips
- 1 small handful unsweetened shredded coconut
- 1 small handful slivered almonds, optional
- 1 light sprinkle ground cinnamon
- Hemp hearts, optional
- Cacao nibs, optional
- Raisins or currants, optional
- Ground cardamom, optional
- Pure maple syrup, optional
Instructions
- Wash and dry the apples thoroughly.
- Cut each apple into quarters and remove the cores, seeds, stems, and blossom ends.
- Place each apple quarter flat-side down and cut it into 1/4-inch slices.
- Transfer the apple slices to a bowl, add the lemon juice, and toss gently to coat.
- Place the nut butter in a microwave-safe bowl and warm it for 20 to 30 seconds, then stir until smooth and drizzable.
- Arrange the apple slices in a wide circle around the outside of a serving plate.
- Add a second overlapping layer of apple slices toward the center of the plate.
- Drizzle the warm nut butter over the apples in circles or zigzags.
- Scatter the chocolate chips, shredded coconut, slivered almonds, and cinnamon evenly over the apples.
- Add any optional hemp hearts, cacao nibs, raisins, currants, cardamom, or maple syrup.
- Serve immediately while the apples remain cold and crisp.
