Description

A cozy, cheesy ground beef and potato casserole baked to golden perfection. Hearty, simple, and family-approved—perfect for busy nights and comfort meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 450 g (1 lb) ground beef

  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) olive oil

  • 1 medium onion (150 g), chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 45 medium potatoes (700 g), thinly sliced

  • 170 g (1 ½ cups) shredded cheddar cheese

  • 50 g (½ cup) grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 tsp (2 g) dried Italian seasoning

  • ½ tsp (1 g) paprika

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • 120 ml (½ cup) beef broth or water

  • 60 ml (¼ cup) milk (optional, for creaminess)

  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Heat oven to 190°C (375°F). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • Cook Beef: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium. Add beef and cook 5–7 minutes until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.

  • Add Flavor: Stir in onion and garlic; cook 3–4 minutes until softened.

  • Assemble Casserole: Spread beef mixture in baking dish. Top with potato slices. Season with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and paprika.

  • Add Cheese & Liquid: Sprinkle cheddar and Parmesan evenly. Pour beef broth (and milk if using) around edges.

  • Bake: Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15–20 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is golden.

  • Serve: Garnish with parsley if desired and serve hot.

Notes

Slice potatoes thin and evenly for the best cooking results.

Broil 2–3 minutes at the end for a crispy, bubbly cheese top.

Swap cheddar for mozzarella or pepper jack for variety.

Leftovers taste even better the next day.

Naturally gluten-free (verify broth if needed).
