Description

Buttery puff pastry and sweet cherry filling come together in these golden Homemade Cherry Turnovers that work perfectly for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 1 cup cherry pie filling
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll puff pastry sheets lightly and cut each sheet into four squares.
  3. Place cherry filling in the center of each pastry square.
  4. Fold pastry into triangles and crimp edges with a fork.
  5. Whisk egg and water together, then brush over turnovers.
  6. Sprinkle sugar on top and bake for 18 to 22 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Cool slightly and drizzle with powdered sugar glaze before serving.

Notes

  1. Keep puff pastry cold for the flakiest texture.
  2. Do not overfill the turnovers.
  3. Add almond extract for richer cherry flavor.
  4. Reheat leftovers in the oven for crisp pastry.
