A fusion of Middle Eastern tradition and creamy chocolate hazelnut goodness, Nutella Kunafa is a showstopper that’s surprisingly easy to make at home. Ready to wow your taste buds? Let’s do this!
Ingredients
- 500g shredded Kunafa dough (kataifi)
- 750g Nutella
- 100g melted butter or ghee
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp lemon juice or rose water
- Ground pistachios for garnish (optional)
Instructions
1️⃣ Prepare the Dough: If using frozen Kunafa dough, let it thaw completely. Separate the strands gently so they don’t clump together.
2️⃣ Make the Sugar Syrup: In a saucepan, combine sugar and water, bringing it to a gentle boil. Stir until sugar dissolves, then add lemon juice or rose water. Let it simmer for 5 minutes, then set aside to cool.
3️⃣ Layer the Kunafa: Grease a baking dish with melted butter or ghee. Spread half of the Kunafa dough at the bottom, pressing lightly.
4️⃣ Add Nutella: Spread Nutella evenly over the first layer of Kunafa, ensuring full coverage.
5️⃣ Top Layer: Spread the remaining Kunafa dough on top, gently pressing it down to secure the filling. Drizzle the remaining melted butter over the top for extra crispiness.
6️⃣ Bake: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the Kunafa turns golden brown and crispy.
7️⃣ Syrup Time: Once out of the oven, immediately pour the warm sugar syrup over the hot Kunafa. Allow it to soak in for a few minutes.
8️⃣ Garnish & Serve: Sprinkle crushed pistachios for a pop of color and crunch. Let it cool slightly before cutting into squares. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
1️⃣ Crispy Texture Tip: Ensure the Kunafa dough is well-coated with melted butter or ghee for that perfect golden crunch. Pressing the layers firmly helps maintain structure and crispiness.
2️⃣ Nutella Consistency: For easier spreading, slightly warm the Nutella before layering. This prevents tearing the delicate Kunafa dough and ensures an even, gooey filling.
3️⃣ Syrup Timing: Always pour the sugar syrup over the Kunafa while it’s hot. This helps it absorb properly without making the dessert soggy. Adjust sweetness by adding less syrup if preferred!
