Tender chicken is slow-cooked in a lemon-garlic Greek yogurt sauce for a creamy, tangy result that’s both healthy and comforting. Whether served over rice, tucked in pita, or added to salads, this fuss-free recipe is perfect for meal prep or fresh weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
1 cup plain Greek yogurt (240 g; whole, 2%, or low-fat)
2–4 garlic cloves, minced or grated
2 tsp lemon zest
2 tbsp fresh lemon juice (30 ml)
1.5 tsp kosher salt, divided (9 g)
2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs (900 g)
Instructions
In a bowl, whisk yogurt, garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, and 3/4 tsp salt until smooth.
Place chicken in slow cooker and sprinkle with remaining 3/4 tsp salt. Pour 1/3 cup yogurt sauce over chicken and toss to coat. Refrigerate remaining sauce.
Cover and cook on high for 2–4 hours or low for 4–6 hours until tender.
Remove chicken and discard excess liquid (reserve 1/4 cup). Shred or slice chicken, return to slow cooker with another 1/3 cup yogurt sauce and reserved liquid. Warm for 5 minutes.
Serve with extra yogurt sauce drizzled on top or on the side.
Notes
Lemon zest adds essential brightness—don’t skip it.
Chicken thighs are more tender and flavorful, but breasts work too.
Add fresh oregano or dill for extra Mediterranean flair.
Serve with olives, cucumbers, or feta for added texture and taste.
Freeze chicken without yogurt sauce for up to 2 months.
