Description

A warm breakfast casserole inspired by the classic monte cristo, baked with ham, Swiss cheese, and tender custard-soaked bread.


Ingredients

Scale

4 Whole Large Eggs

1 1/2 C. Fat Free Half & Half

1 1/2 Tsp. Dijon Mustard

Pinch of Nutmeg

Salt & Pepper to Taste

6 C. Stale Cubed French Bread

9 Oz. Ham

1 1/2 C. Shredded Swiss Cheese


Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. and lightly coat the inside of an 8×8″ or 9×9″ baking dish with non-stick spray.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, half & half, dijon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.

3. Stir in the bread to coat evenly.

4. Fold in the ham and Swiss cheese.

5. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.

6. Bake for about 40 minutes or until the edges brown and the cheese melts.

7. Cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Serve with optional preserves for a classic monte cristo feel.
