Description

  • These Old School Pizza Burgers bring together the nostalgic charm of cafeteria lunches with the irresistible flavors of pizza. Made with seasoned beef, rich pizza sauce, and melty cheddar cheese on a toasted bun, they’re the ultimate comfort food for any generation.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (450 g)

  • 1 cup pizza sauce (240 ml)

  • 1½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese (170 g)

  • 6 hamburger buns, halved

  • Optional toppings: sliced olives, mushrooms, pepperoni, extra cheese

  • Optional: butter for toasting buns

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
  2. Cook and Drain the Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium-high heat, crumble and cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Season and Sauce: Add the Italian seasoning to the cooked ground beef and stir well. Pour in the pizza sauce, stirring to combine. Allow the mixture to simmer for a few minutes until it thickens slightly.
  4. Prepare the Burger Buns: Place the burger bun halves on a baking sheet, cut side up.
  5. Assemble the Pizza Burgers: Spoon the ground beef mixture onto one half of each burger bun, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded sharp cheddar cheese over the beef mixture.
  6. Bake in the Oven: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 12 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the bottom of the buns has a slight crunch.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Carefully remove the pizza burgers from the oven. Place the remaining half of the burger bun on top, creating a sandwich. Allow the burgers to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For more flavor, try mixing different cheeses like mozzarella or provolone.

Toasting the buns helps prevent sogginess.

Store beef mixture in the fridge for up to 2 days or freeze for 3 months.

Add chopped veggies like mushrooms or bell peppers for a healthier twist.
