- 8 oz spaghetti, linguine, or penne
- 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup water
- 3/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese or sour cream (optional)
- Chopped parsley or basil (optional)
Instructions
- Heat butter or olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Cook minced garlic for 1 to 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add pasta, milk, and enough water to barely cover the pasta.
- Bring to a gentle boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Stir in Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
- Mix in cream cheese or sour cream if using.
- Garnish with parsley or basil and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use freshly grated Parmesan for the smoothest sauce.
- Stir frequently to prevent sticking.
