Description
Peach Crisp is an easy homemade dessert made with fresh peaches, warm cinnamon, nutmeg, and a buttery brown sugar crumb topping baked until golden and bubbling.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 fresh peaches, peeled and sliced
- 1 cup organic granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup butter, sliced
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup light brown sugar, lightly packed
- 1 cup butter, softened
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or 3-quart baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and brown sugar.
- Add 1 cup softened butter and mix on low speed, with a pastry cutter, or with your fingertips until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
- Peel and slice the peaches, then place them in a large bowl.
- Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the peaches and gently stir until the slices are evenly coated.
- Pour the peach mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
- Scatter the sliced 1/4 cup butter randomly over the peach filling.
- Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the peaches without pressing it down.
- Bake uncovered for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling bubbles around the edges.
- Remove from the oven and let the crisp rest for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or your favorite topping.
Notes
- Use ripe but firm peaches for the best texture.
- If the peaches are very juicy, add 1 tablespoon cornstarch to the filling before baking.
- Loosely cover the dish with foil during the last 10 to 15 minutes if the topping browns too quickly.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Reheat individual servings in the microwave for 30 to 60 seconds or warm the baking dish in a 350°F oven for about 15 minutes.
