Ingredients

Scale

½ cup creamy peanut butter
¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
½ cup packed brown sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Prepare Peanut Butter Dough:
In a mixing bowl, beat peanut butter, butter, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well. Gradually incorporate the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • Prepare Brownie Dough:
In a separate bowl, whisk melted butter and granulated sugar. Stir in cocoa powder, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth. Slowly add flour, baking powder, and salt, folding in the chocolate chips.
  • Chill the Doughs:
Cover and refrigerate both doughs for 30 minutes. This helps the dough firm up for easier handling.
  • Assemble the Cookies:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Scoop equal amounts of each dough onto the sheet, placing them side by side. Use a toothpick to gently swirl the doughs together for a marbled effect.
  • Bake:
Bake for 9-11 minutes. The edges should be set while the centers remain soft. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Chill the Dough:
Chilling the peanut butter and brownie doughs for at least 30 minutes is crucial. It ensures the doughs are firm enough to handle and helps the cookies retain their shape while baking.
  • Swirling Technique:
Use a toothpick or skewer to gently swirl the two doughs together. Be careful not to overmix, as this can blend the colors too much and lose the beautiful marbled effect.
  • Monitor Baking Time:
Bake until the edges are set but the centers are still slightly soft (9-11 minutes). Overbaking will result in dry cookies instead of the desired fudgy texture.
