  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups caramel (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 ½ cups toasted pecans, chopped
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Prepare the Crust: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in softened butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press firmly into a greased or parchment-lined 9×9-inch baking pan. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden. Cool slightly.
  • Make the Filling: Melt caramel in a saucepan over medium heat (or microwave per package instructions). Stir in toasted pecans until evenly coated. Spread this mixture over the cooled crust, ensuring an even layer.
  • Add the Chocolate Topping: Melt chocolate chips in 30-second bursts in the microwave, stirring between intervals. Drizzle or spread the melted chocolate over the caramel-pecan layer.
  • Bake and Chill: Return the pan to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, until the caramel bubbles gently. Cool at room temperature for 30 minutes, then chill in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours.
  • Slice and Serve: Once chilled and set, cut into squares and enjoy!

Notes

1️⃣ Use Parchment Paper for Easy Removal: Line your baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides. This makes it much easier to lift the bars out of the pan for cutting and serving.

2️⃣ Toast Pecans for Enhanced Flavor: Lightly toast the pecans before mixing them with the caramel. Toasting brings out their natural oils, deepening their flavor and adding an extra crunch.

3️⃣ Cool Completely Before Slicing: Let the bars chill thoroughly in the refrigerator before cutting. This ensures the layers set properly, giving you neat and clean slices.
