Ingredients
- Ground beef – 2 lbs (900g)
- Breadcrumbs – ¾ cup (90g)
- Eggs – 2 large
- Milk – ½ cup (120ml)
- Worcestershire sauce – 1 tbsp (15ml)
- Garlic powder – 1 tsp (5g)
- Salt – 1 tsp (5g)
- Black pepper – ½ tsp (2g)
- Onion – 1 small, diced
- Green bell pepper – 1 medium, diced
- Mushrooms – 1 cup (100g), chopped
- Provolone cheese – 6 slices
- Olive oil – 1 tbsp (15ml)
Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat & Prep – Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking sheet or loaf pan.
2️⃣ Sauté Vegetables – In a pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions, peppers, and mushrooms. Cook until soft and slightly caramelized (about 5 minutes). Set aside to cool.
3️⃣ Mix Meat Mixture – In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
4️⃣ Assemble the Meatloaf – On a baking sheet, shape half the meat mixture into a loaf. Make a shallow well in the center and layer with provolone slices. Cover with the remaining meat mixture and seal the edges.
5️⃣ Bake – Place in the oven and bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
6️⃣ Rest & Serve – Let the meatloaf rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Serve with your favorite sides and enjoy!
Notes
1️⃣ Don’t Overmix the Meat – Overmixing can make the meatloaf dense and tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined for a tender and juicy texture.
2️⃣ Sauté the Vegetables First – Cooking the onions, peppers, and mushrooms before mixing them in enhances their flavor and prevents excess moisture from making the meatloaf soggy.
3️⃣ Let It Rest Before Slicing – After baking, let the meatloaf rest for 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, making the slices hold together better.
