Description

These red lentil patties are crispy on the outside, tender inside, and made with simple pantry ingredients. They are vegan, gluten-free, and ready in about 35 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup dry red lentils
  • 1 cup vegetable broth or water
  • 1 small red pepper, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 4 tbsp chickpea flour
  • 1 tbsp ground chia seeds
  • 3 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp paprika powder
  • ¾ tsp ground cumin
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Red pepper flakes to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Rinse the red lentils under running water.
  2. Add lentils and broth to a pot and simmer for 15 minutes until soft with no liquid left.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet and sauté onion, pepper, and garlic until translucent.
  4. Add lentils, vegetables, spices, parsley, chia seeds, and flour to a food processor.
  5. Pulse briefly until combined but textured.
  6. Shape the mixture into 10 patties.
  7. Fry patties in a lightly oiled skillet for about 3 minutes per side until golden.
  8. Serve warm with a dip or side of choice.

Notes

  1. Use vegetable broth for deeper flavor.
  2. Add extra chickpea flour if the mixture feels too soft.
  3. These patties can also be baked or air-fried with light oil.
