Ingredients
For the cupcakes:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup milk (or dairy-free alternative)
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ tsp salt
For the frosting:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- A few drops of food coloring (optional)
Instructions
Prepare the batter – Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy, then add eggs and vanilla. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually combine dry ingredients with the butter mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until smooth.
Bake the cupcakes – Fill cupcake liners ¾ full. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely before frosting.
Make the frosting – Beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, then mix in milk and vanilla. Add food coloring if desired.
Decorate – Pipe frosting onto cupcakes. Add sprinkles, chocolate shavings, or drizzle melted chocolate for extra charm.
Notes
Don’t Overmix the Batter – Stir until just combined to keep the cupcakes light and fluffy. Overmixing can make them dense and tough.
Let Cupcakes Cool Completely Before Frosting – Warm cupcakes will melt the frosting, making it runny. For best results, let them cool on a wire rack before decorating.
Adjust Frosting Consistency as Needed – If the frosting is too thick, add a little more milk (1 teaspoon at a time). If it’s too thin, add more powdered sugar until it reaches the right texture for piping.
Happy baking!
