Description
This cozy, hearty casserole combines tangy Sloppy Joe flavors with golden, flaky biscuits and gooey melted cheese. It’s an easy crowd-pleaser perfect for weeknight dinners or casual gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 can (8 biscuits) store-bought or homemade biscuit dough
- 1 cup Sloppy Joe sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 small onion, diced (optional)
- 1 small bell pepper, diced (optional)
- 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
- Pinch of chili flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Biscuits: If using store-bought biscuits, open the can and separate the dough. For homemade, prepare your biscuit dough as desired and set aside.
- Cook Meat Mixture: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart, until browned (about 7-10 minutes). Drain excess fat. Stir in diced onions and bell peppers if using, cooking for 3-4 minutes. Add Sloppy Joe sauce, garlic powder, and chili flakes. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Assemble Casserole: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread the meat mixture evenly into the bottom of a casserole dish. Arrange biscuits on top of the meat. Sprinkle shredded cheese generously over the biscuits.
- Bake: Place the dish in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve: Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm with your favorite sides!
Notes
1️⃣ Customize to Taste: Add vegetables like bell peppers or onions for extra texture and flavor, or spice it up with chili flakes or cayenne pepper for a kick.
2️⃣ Prevent Soggy Biscuits: Place a thin layer of cheese on the meat mixture before arranging the biscuits on top to keep them from soaking up too much sauce.
3️⃣ Make Ahead & Freeze: Assemble the casserole ahead of time, refrigerate or freeze it, and bake fresh when needed for a convenient, stress-free meal.
