Soft, tender potatoes infused with the savory flavors of Lipton Onion Soup Mix, all cooked effortlessly in a slow cooker. This comforting side dish is perfect for any meal, easy to prepare, and absolutely delicious.
Ingredients
- 4 large russet potatoes, sliced into thin rounds
- 1 packet Lipton Onion Soup Mix
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Optional: 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, ¼ cup cooked bacon bits, 2 tablespoons fresh parsley
Instructions
- Prepare the slow cooker: Lightly grease the inside of the slow cooker with olive oil or non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
- Slice the potatoes: Wash, peel (optional), and slice potatoes into thin rounds or wedges for even cooking.
- Layer the ingredients: Place a layer of potatoes at the bottom of the slow cooker. Sprinkle some Lipton Onion Soup Mix, garlic powder, and black pepper. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.
- Drizzle with olive oil: Pour olive oil evenly over the top to enhance flavor and aid cooking.
- Cook the potatoes: Cover the slow cooker with the lid. Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6–7 hours, stirring once or twice to ensure even cooking.
- Add optional ingredients: In the last 30 minutes of cooking, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese and bacon bits (if using) over the top. Let them melt into the potatoes.
- Garnish and serve: Once the potatoes are soft and tender, transfer them to a serving dish. Garnish with fresh parsley or other herbs for a burst of color and flavor.
Notes
1️⃣ Choose the Right Potatoes: Russet potatoes work best for this recipe because they become soft and fluffy during slow cooking. For a creamier texture, try Yukon Gold, and for a firmer bite, use red potatoes.
2️⃣ Layering Matters: To ensure even cooking and full flavor, layer the potatoes and seasonings evenly. Stir halfway through the cooking process for uniform seasoning and tenderness.
3️⃣ Customize to Taste: Enhance the dish by adding optional ingredients like shredded cheese, bacon bits, or fresh herbs in the last 30 minutes of cooking. These additions elevate the flavor and texture, making the dish truly your own.
