Description

Classic smothered meatballs simmered in rich onion gravy and served hot for a comforting family dinner.


Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons fresh parsley
  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 beef bouillon cube
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup cold water

Instructions

  1. Combine ground beef with meatball ingredients and roll into balls.
  2. Brown meatballs in olive oil and set aside.
  3. Cook sliced onions in butter until caramelized.
  4. Add broths, seasonings, and bouillon to onions.
  5. Whisk in cornstarch slurry to thicken gravy.
  6. Return meatballs to skillet and simmer until cooked through.

Notes

  1. Do not overmix the meat mixture.
  2. Brown meatballs in batches for best color.
  3. Adjust gravy thickness with extra broth if needed.
