Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup colorful candy pieces (like M&M’s)
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Prep the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a separate large bowl, cream butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 2 minutes).
- Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract.
- Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Gradually mix in the flour mixture until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Fold in the Mix-Ins: Gently fold in chocolate chips, candy pieces, and nuts (if using).
- Chill the Dough: For best results, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
- Portion the Cookies: Use a cookie scoop or two spoons to drop dough balls (about 2 tbsp each) onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
- Bake: Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden, and the centers look slightly underbaked.
- Cool: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Chilling the Dough is Key: Chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes ensures the cookies don’t spread too much while baking, giving them a thicker and chewier texture.
- Don’t Overbake: Remove the cookies from the oven when the edges are golden, but the centers still look slightly underdone. They’ll continue to set as they cool, keeping the centers soft and gooey.
- Customize Your Mix-Ins: Get creative with your add-ins! Swap M&M’s for peanut butter cups, white chocolate chips, or sprinkles to create your own version of these colorful cookies.
