Description

Southern Peach Tea is a sweet, fruity iced tea made with black tea, peach puree, and simple syrup. It is cold, easy, and perfect for summer serving.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 regular-size black tea bags
  • 8 cups water, divided
  • 1 can peach slices, 15 ounces, pureed
  • 1 cup water, for simple syrup
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • Ice, for serving
  • Optional peach slices, for garnish
  • Optional fresh mint, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
  2. Remove the saucepan from the heat, add the 6 black tea bags, and steep for about 5 minutes.
  3. Remove and discard the tea bags, then set the brewed tea aside to cool.
  4. While the tea cools, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar in a small saucepan.
  5. Stir the sugar and water over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to lightly boil.
  6. Remove the simple syrup from the heat.
  7. In a large pitcher, combine the brewed tea and the simple syrup.
  8. Add the pureed peaches and the remaining 4 cups of cool water.
  9. Stir until well combined.
  10. Chill until cold, then serve over ice.
  11. Garnish with peach slices and fresh mint, if desired.

Notes

  1. Do not steep the tea bags longer than 5 minutes, or the tea may taste bitter.
  2. Stir the pitcher before serving because peach puree can settle as the tea chills.
  3. For a less sweet tea, add only part of the simple syrup first, then taste and adjust.
  4. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  5. Do not store the tea with ice in the pitcher, because melted ice will dilute the flavor.
