Description

A hearty comfort dish that combines the bold flavor of seasoned steak with the warm, fluffy texture of a perfectly baked potato. Topped with melty cheese and customizable garnishes, it’s a filling meal that’s easy to personalize for any dietary preference.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large Russet or Idaho potatoes

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • Salt (for rubbing and seasoning)

  • 2 ribeye or sirloin steaks

  • Black pepper, to taste

  • Garlic powder (optional)

  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese (or other cheese of choice)

  • 4 tablespoons butter

  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced

  • Optional toppings: sour cream, bacon bits, sautéed mushrooms, blue cheese, steak sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

  • Prepare potatoes: Wash, dry, and pierce each potato with a fork. Rub with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.

  • Bake: Place directly on oven rack and bake for 45–60 minutes until tender and skins are crisp.

  • Cook steak: While potatoes bake, season steak with salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder. Grill or pan-sear to desired doneness. Let rest before slicing.

  • Assemble: Slice the top of each potato, fluff insides with a fork, add butter and cheese. Top with sliced steak.

  • Finish: Add extra cheese, green onions, and any desired toppings. Serve hot.

Notes

For crispy potato skin, bake directly on the rack and increase heat to 450°F (230°C) for last 10 minutes.

Swap steak for portobello mushrooms or plant-based alternatives for a vegetarian version.

Use dairy-free cheese and vegan butter for a plant-based option.

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in oven or microwave.
