Ingredients
Scale
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup warm milk
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Strawberry Filling:
- 1 ½ cups fresh strawberries, diced
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1–2 tbsp heavy cream
Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough
- Warm the milk (not too hot) and sprinkle in the yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until bubbly.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
2. Make the Strawberry Filling
- Combine diced strawberries, sugar, and cornstarch in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until the mixture thickens. Let it cool completely.
3. Assemble the Rolls
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle (12×18 inches). Spread the strawberry filling evenly, leaving a 1-inch border.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut into 12 even slices.
- Arrange rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
4. Bake the Rolls
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown. Let them cool for 10 minutes before frosting.
5. Make the Cream Cheese Frosting
- Beat cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and heavy cream. Mix until light and fluffy.
6. Frost the Rolls
Spread the frosting generously over the warm rolls, letting it melt into the swirls for a creamy finish.
Notes
- Temperature Matters:
Ensure the milk is warm (around 110°F/43°C) when activating the yeast. If it’s too hot, it can kill the yeast, and if it’s too cold, the dough won’t rise properly. - Cool Filling:
Always let the strawberry filling cool completely before spreading it on the dough. Warm filling can make the dough soggy and harder to roll. - Don’t Overbake:
Remove the rolls from the oven as soon as they turn golden brown (25–30 minutes). Overbaking can make them dry, so keep an eye on them!
