Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- ½ cup warm milk
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup fresh strawberry puree
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 3 tbsp strawberry puree
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Instructions
1️⃣ In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
2️⃣ In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, vanilla, and strawberry puree. Mix until a dough forms.
3️⃣ Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
4️⃣ Roll out the dough to ½-inch thickness and cut out doughnuts. Let them rise for another 30 minutes.
5️⃣ Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry doughnuts in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
6️⃣ For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar, strawberry puree, and lemon juice until smooth.
7️⃣ Dip warm doughnuts in the glaze and let them set before serving.
Notes
1️⃣ Proper Dough Rising – Let the dough rise until it doubles in size. This ensures the doughnuts are light and fluffy. Skipping or rushing this step can result in dense doughnuts.
2️⃣ Oil Temperature Matters – Maintain the oil at 350°F (175°C). If it’s too hot, the doughnuts will brown too quickly and remain raw inside; too cool, and they’ll absorb excess oil, becoming greasy.
3️⃣ Glaze While Warm – Dip the doughnuts in the strawberry glaze while they are slightly warm. This helps the glaze set beautifully and enhances the flavor.
