Description

A decadent combination of rich, fudgy chocolate brownies and a fresh strawberry topping. These treats are perfect for Valentine’s Day or any occasion that calls for a sweet celebration!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Brownie Base:

  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt

For the Strawberry Topping:

  • 1½ cups fresh strawberries (sliced)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon zest

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Remove from heat and whisk in cocoa powder until smooth.
  • Add sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract to the saucepan. Stir until the mixture is well combined and creamy.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs. Let the brownies cool completely.
  • While the brownies cool, prepare the topping. Toss the sliced strawberries with sugar and lemon zest in a bowl. Let the mixture sit for 10-15 minutes to release juices.
  • Once the brownies have cooled, spread the strawberry mixture evenly over the top. Slice into squares or heart shapes and serve immediately for a fresh and indulgent treat.

Notes

  • Use Fresh Strawberries for Best Flavor: Fresh, ripe strawberries provide the best balance of sweetness and tartness. If using frozen strawberries, thaw them completely and drain excess liquid to prevent soggy brownies.
  • Don’t Overbake the Brownies: For a perfectly fudgy texture, check the brownies a few minutes before the recommended baking time ends. A toothpick inserted should come out with moist crumbs, not dry or wet batter.
  • Allow Brownies to Cool Completely Before Topping: Adding the strawberry topping to warm brownies may cause the juices to seep into the brownies, making them too soft or messy. Ensure they are fully cooled for a clean, layered presentation.
