Description
A decadent combination of rich, fudgy chocolate brownies and a fresh strawberry topping. These treats are perfect for Valentine’s Day or any occasion that calls for a sweet celebration!
Ingredients
Scale
For the Brownie Base:
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
For the Strawberry Topping:
- 1½ cups fresh strawberries (sliced)
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp lemon zest
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Remove from heat and whisk in cocoa powder until smooth.
- Add sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract to the saucepan. Stir until the mixture is well combined and creamy.
- In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs. Let the brownies cool completely.
- While the brownies cool, prepare the topping. Toss the sliced strawberries with sugar and lemon zest in a bowl. Let the mixture sit for 10-15 minutes to release juices.
- Once the brownies have cooled, spread the strawberry mixture evenly over the top. Slice into squares or heart shapes and serve immediately for a fresh and indulgent treat.
Notes
- Use Fresh Strawberries for Best Flavor: Fresh, ripe strawberries provide the best balance of sweetness and tartness. If using frozen strawberries, thaw them completely and drain excess liquid to prevent soggy brownies.
- Don’t Overbake the Brownies: For a perfectly fudgy texture, check the brownies a few minutes before the recommended baking time ends. A toothpick inserted should come out with moist crumbs, not dry or wet batter.
- Allow Brownies to Cool Completely Before Topping: Adding the strawberry topping to warm brownies may cause the juices to seep into the brownies, making them too soft or messy. Ensure they are fully cooled for a clean, layered presentation.
