Description

Honey BBQ Chicken Rice is a cozy, one-pan dinner that balances sweet and savory flavors. Juicy chicken and fluffy rice simmer together in smoky BBQ sauce and honey, making a high-protein, family-approved weeknight meal that’s quick, hearty, and comforting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts

  • 1 cup (200 g) long-grain rice

  • 2 cups (480 ml) chicken broth

  • ½ cup (120 ml) BBQ sauce

  • ¼ cup (60 ml) honey

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Olive oil, for searing

  • Optional garnish: chopped fresh parsley or green onions

Instructions

  • Season chicken with salt and pepper, then sear in olive oil over medium-high heat for 4–5 minutes until lightly browned.

  • Stir in uncooked rice, coating the grains with pan juices.

  • Add chicken broth, BBQ sauce, and honey. Stir to combine.

  • Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18–20 minutes until rice is tender and liquid absorbed.

  • Remove from heat, let rest covered for 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork.

  • Garnish with parsley or green onions and serve hot.

Notes

Use chicken thighs for more flavor, or chicken breasts for a leaner option.

Add chili flakes or spicy BBQ sauce for heat.

Swap with brown rice but increase cooking time by 10 minutes and add extra broth.

If your pan doesn’t have a lid, cover tightly with foil.

Perfect for meal prep—stores well in fridge or freezer.
