The perfect cozy meal, Swiss Chicken Casserole combines tender chicken, creamy sauce, and melty Swiss cheese, all topped with a crispy, golden breadcrumb crust. Comfort food at its finest!
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or 3 cups cooked, shredded chicken)
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
- 1 ½ cups shredded Swiss cheese
- 1 cup crushed crackers or breadcrumbs
- ½ cup melted butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2️⃣ In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of chicken soup, half of the shredded Swiss cheese, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
3️⃣ Place the chicken breasts in a baking dish and season them with salt, pepper, and garlic powder if desired.
4️⃣ Spread the creamy soup mixture evenly over the chicken.
5️⃣ Sprinkle the remaining Swiss cheese over the creamy layer.
6️⃣ Mix the crushed crackers or breadcrumbs with melted butter and spread evenly on top of the casserole.
7️⃣ Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25-30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the top is golden and crispy.
8️⃣ Ensure the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Let the casserole sit for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
1️⃣ Use Pre-Cooked Chicken for Convenience: If you’re short on time, use rotisserie chicken or pre-cooked shredded chicken. It speeds up prep and ensures tender, flavorful results.
2️⃣ Customize the Topping: For extra crunch, mix breadcrumbs with grated Parmesan cheese or swap them for crushed cornflakes.
3️⃣ Don’t Skip Resting Time: Allow the casserole to rest for 5-10 minutes after baking. This helps the sauce thicken and makes serving easier.
