Description
Tempura Cheesecake is a crispy, creamy fusion dessert that combines the delicate batter-frying technique of Japanese tempura with the rich indulgence of traditional cheesecake. This decadent treat delivers a delightful contrast of textures and flavors, making it a showstopping finale to any meal.
Ingredients
6 slices of firm cheesecake (chilled or frozen for best results)
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
3/4 cup ice-cold water (adjust as needed)
Neutral oil for deep frying (e.g., canola or vegetable)
Optional toppings: powdered sugar, chocolate sauce, caramel drizzle, berry compote, or vanilla ice cream
Instructions
Prepare the cheesecake: Slice chilled or frozen cheesecake into desired portions (bite-sized or slices). Keep refrigerated until ready to dip.
Make the batter: In a bowl, combine flour and cornstarch. Gradually add ice-cold water while gently stirring. Do not overmix—lumps are okay. The batter should be light and slightly runny.
Heat oil: Fill a deep pan or fryer with oil and heat to 350°F (175°C).
Dip and fry: Working in batches, dip cheesecake pieces in the batter, ensuring they are fully coated. Gently place in hot oil and fry until golden brown—about 2–3 minutes per piece.
Drain and serve: Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with your favorite topping. Serve warm with fruit, whipped cream, or ice cream.
Notes
Freezing cheesecake pieces for 1 hour before frying helps maintain shape during cooking.
Use a thermometer to monitor oil temperature.
Gluten-free flour blends can be substituted to make this recipe gluten-free.
Try flavor variations like matcha batter or flavored cheesecake (strawberry, chocolate, etc.).
